Mary Gaitskill is the author of Bad Behaviour (1988), Two Girls, Fat and Thin (1991), Because They Wanted To (1997), Veronica (2005), and, most recently, Don’t Cry (2009), a collection of stories, and The Mare (2015), a novel. Gaitskill won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002, and her works have been nominated for multiple awards including the PEN/Faulkner (Because They Wanted To) and the National Book Award and National Books Critics Circle Award (Veronica; finalist). Originally from Kentucky, she lives in Brooklyn, New York.
